Defining the H

Lego Towers

The H in ADHD stands for hyperactivity.  It means impulsivity and over-activity.  It is sometimes complicated and complex as a parent analyzes their child:  is this normal kid behavior, or is it hyperactivity?  Does this child just lack common sense, or is this impulsivity?

Let me explain it very simply.

You can be sure that your 9-year-old child is exhibiting the behaviors of H if within a 2-hour time period, he knocks over a Lego city that his mom and sister worked hard to build, drops his pants and pees on the porch, screams at the top of his lungs for no apparent reason every 10 minutes or so, and completely immerses both of his hands in his bean soup at the dinner table.  Yes, that child is the H to which the professionals are referring.

Just for the record. .  . this whole crazy-things-in-a-couple-of-hours idea is, of course, totally hypothetical since I’ve never seen anything like this from anyone in my family. . . .  Ummmm, really.

I’ve just heard about stuff like that. . . .
