A Blessing

Today during homework, Zachary was throwing a fit.  He felt dumb.  He kept saying he couldn’t do it.  He was crying and screaming and was out of control.  I want to point out here that this is not a behavior issue for Zachary — this reaction is out of his control and is a result of his anxiety / mood disorder.  While I know it is out of his control, it is still sometimes infuriating to not be able to push past those feelings of inadequacy.  It is very often frustrating.  I was very frustrated by it today.

While Zippy and I were in the floor trying to push through and accomplish today’s homework, Chloe was getting upset and was crawling on me asking for pudding.  Funny that her response to all the commotion was hunger . . . .

I just told her she was going to have to wait.  “You will have to wait,” I repeated a couple of times.

Without a word or a blink, Elliot got up, got a spoon and some pudding and told Chloe to come sit with him and have a snack.  And while I finished up and pushed through with Zachary and his fit, Elliot sat, talking calmly to Chloe and feeding her some pudding for a snack.

And everyone was happy.  And everyone was blessed.

Thank you, Lord, for Elliot.  🙂
