Stand Up!

My sister and her baby.

If you’re a parent, stand up!

If you’ve ever literally felt your chest expand as you filled with pride over your child’s accomplishment, stay standing.

If you’ve ever laughed when you should’ve been scolding, stay standing.

If you’ve ever laughed when your child made a statement that sounded just like you, stay standing.

If you’ve ever cried with your child, stay standing.

If you’ve ever sat and watched your child sleeping, stay standing.

If you’ve ever asked your child to forgive you, stay standing.

If you’ve ever had to defend your child, stay standing.

If you’ve ever cleaned up after your sick child, stay standing.

If you’ve ever held your sick child all night long, stay standing.

If you’ve ever let your child have birthday cake for breakfast, stay standing.

If your heart has ever actually ached for your hurting child, stay standing.

If you’ve ever sat in the freezing cold and watched your child participate in sports, stay standing.

If you’ve ever played in the rain with your child, stay standing.

If you’ve ever bragged about your child’s accomplishments, stay standing.

If you love the smell of your child, stay standing.

If you’ve ever bought a surprise for your child just because, stay standing.

If you have dreams and wishes for your child, stay standing.

If you’ve ever read aloud to your child, stay standing.

If you’ve ever applied a band-aid, stay standing.

If you love the sound of your child’s laughter, stay standing.

If you’ve ever actually run to your child when you heard his/her cry, stay standing.

If you’ve ever cooked your child’s favorite meal, stay standing.

If you’ve ever taken a photo because your child looked especially cute, stay standing.

If you’ve ever arrived early to save a good seat so you could see your child perform, stay standing.

If you’ve ever whispered a prayer for your child, stay standing.

If you’ve ever wished your child would just stay young, stay standing.

If you’ve ever asked for advice about your child, stay standing.

If you’ve ever hung on every word your child says, stay standing.

If you’ve ever cried happy tears over your child, stay standing.

Wow.  You’re still standing?

You’re amazing.  You’re an excellent parent.

I honor you.  I esteem you.  And I applaud you.

Wow, I cried as I read through this list, thinking about all of the times I have done each of those things. Brought back so many sweet memories, even the hurting ones. Thanks for posting this.
